National Assembly Closes Ranks

The Cameroon National Assembly on Tuesday hosted its traditional 2026 New Year Wishes Ceremony, a solemn institutional ritual that brought together Members of Parliament, parliamentary staff, and security personnel in a renewed spirit of unity and service to the Republic.

As scheduled on the official programme, proceedings effectively began at 10:00 a.m. with the arrival of the Senior Deputy Speaker, Hilarion Etong, who represented the Right Honourable Speaker, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril. By the time of his arrival, guests were already seated in the Banquet Hall of the National Assembly Complex, which hosted the ceremony for the second consecutive year.

Parliamentary Bureau and MPs Lead the Ceremony

The New Year wishes formally commenced with members of the Bureau of the National Assembly, who filed past to extend the symbolic greetings: “Happy New Year, Mr. Speaker.”

The delegation was led by Baoro Théophile, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.

They were followed by Members of the CPDM Parliamentary Group, led by Roger Melingui, Chief Whip of the group. The sequence continued with Members of Parliament from opposition parties, led by Cabral Libii, President of the PCRN political party.

The parliamentary phase concluded with the participation of National Assembly staff, underscoring the inclusive and institutional character of the ceremony.

Administration, Services and Security Units Take Center Stage

Among the first staff delegations to extend New Year wishes was the Cabinet of the Speaker, led by El Hadj Boukar Abdourahim, Chief of Staff to the Speaker.

This was followed by the General Secretariat of the National Assembly, headed by Essian Andre Noël, Secretary General.

The Questor’s Services, led by SALI, Controller General of Administration and Finance, then took their turn.

Also represented were the Parliamentary Institute of Yaounde and the Hôtel des Députés, reflecting the broad institutional ecosystem that supports parliamentary work.

A particularly striking moment came with the participation of the military and security units serving at the National Assembly. Leading this category was the Speaker’s security team, commanded by Ibrahim Yeguie Djibril, followed by the security team of the National Assembly Complex under Haman.

Honouring Merit and Service

The 2026 New Year Wishes Ceremony concluded with the award of medals of different grades to selected meritorious staff, in recognition of dedication, professionalism, and loyal service to the institution.

Beyond its ceremonial significance, the event reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to discipline, continuity, and collective responsibility as Parliament enters the new legislative year, united in purpose and service to the Cameroonian people.
