National Assembly Speaker highlights the role of the Evangelical Church of Cameroon in promoting peace, education and social cohesion
The Speaker of the Cameroon National Assembly, Right Honourable Theodore Datouo, has reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between public institutions and faith-based organisations in addressing societal challenges and advancing inclusive development.
The Speaker made the remarks during an audience granted to leaders of the Evangelical Church of Cameroon (ECC) from the West Region. The meeting, held in an atmosphere of cordiality and mutual respect, provided a platform for constructive dialogue on issues affecting the Church and the communities it serves.
Discussions centred on the contribution of religious institutions to peacebuilding, moral education, social cohesion and sustainable development. The ECC representatives shared concerns affecting their congregations while reaffirming their commitment to supporting the spiritual, educational and social advancement of communities across the West Region.
Right Honourable Theodore Datouo commended the Evangelical Church of Cameroon for its longstanding contribution to nation-building, particularly through its involvement in education, healthcare, humanitarian assistance and the promotion of ethical values.
He stressed that the partnership between public authorities and faith-based organisations remains essential in confronting contemporary social challenges and ensuring development that benefits all sections of society.
The Church leaders expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the Speaker and reiterated their readiness to continue working with public institutions to promote peace, unity and the well-being of communities.
The audience ended with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation and sustain regular dialogue on issues of common interest. Both sides pledged to continue supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening harmony, development and national unity.
The engagement reflects a broader vision of partnership between Cameroon’s public leadership and religious institutions, united by a common objective: serving the people and fostering sustainable development.
