January 22, 2026 Cameroon has officially launched preparations for the hosting of the 51st General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF) with the formal installation of the event’s Organising Committee.

The installation ceremony was held on Wednesday at the banquet hall of the Paul Biya Glass House, headquarters of the National Assembly, under the chairmanship of the Senior Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Hilarion Etong. He is also President of the APF Cameroon Branch and the current President of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie.

The General Assembly is scheduled to take place in Yaoundé from July 7 to 12, 2026, and is expected to welcome over 400 parliamentarians and delegates from the four major regions of the Francophone world.

Ceremony Highlights

Proceedings began at 12:15 p.m. with the arrival of the presiding authority. The opening segment featured a video presentation outlining the mandate of the APF, its parliamentary activities, and the facilities of the National Assembly that will be used during the upcoming international meeting.

This was followed by the reading of the Presidential Order establishing the Organising Committee, presented by Mr. John Mamong, Technical Adviser at the National Assembly and Administrative Secretary of the APF Cameroon Branch.

During the presentation, the composition of the Organising Committee was unveiled, including 15 specialised sub-committees entrusted with the day-to-day planning and coordination of the General Assembly.

Call for Commitment and Excellence

In his installation address, Hon. Hilarion Etong emphasised the significance of the event for Cameroon’s parliamentary diplomacy and international image.

He urged members of the Organising Committee to demonstrate professionalism, unity, and dedication in order to ensure a successful hosting that will bring honour to the country and strengthen the standing of Cameroon’s parliamentary institutions.

At the close of his address, he officially declared the members of the Organising Committee installed on behalf of the Right Honourable Speaker of the National Assembly and the President of the Senate.

Operational Roadmaps Unveiled

The final phase of the ceremony focused on the presentation of operational roadmaps to guide the work of the various sub-committees. The presentation was delivered by Mr. Bouba Halidou, Consultant, who outlined the strategic framework for effective coordination and timely execution of assigned responsibilities.

Concluding the ceremony, the President of the APF reaffirmed that the general coordination team, under his leadership, remains open to proposals and innovative ideas capable of strengthening the organisation of the 51st General Assembly.

He also expressed appreciation to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Right Honourable Cavaye Yeguié Djibril, for his decisive role in enabling Cameroon to host this major parliamentary event of La Francophonie.

The ceremony ended at 1:20 p.m., officially marking the start of Cameroon’s final preparations ahead of the July 2026 APF General Assembly in Yaoundé.
