PARLIAMENTARY DIPLOMACY/EGYPT’S NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION HON. ADAMU EDWARD LAMBE REPRESENTS SPEAKER

The Right Honourable Speaker of the National Assembly of Cameroon, Théodore Datouo, was represented at the commemoration of the National Day of the Arab Republic of Egypt by Honourable Adamu Edward Lambe, Member of Parliament for the Donga-Mantung East (Nwa) Constituency and Acting President of the Cameroon–Egypt–Madagascar–Libya Joint Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The ceremony, hosted by the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Yaoundé, brought together members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, parliamentarians, business leaders and development partners to celebrate Egypt’s National Day a historic milestone that symbolizes the country’s sovereignty, resilience and enduring leadership on the African continent.

Representing the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Adamu Edward Lambe conveyed the warm congratulations and best wishes of the Cameroonian Parliament to the Government and people of Egypt. He reaffirmed the National Assembly’s unwavering commitment to strengthening parliamentary cooperation and expanding the longstanding bonds of friendship that unite Yaoundé and Cairo.

His participation at the event underscored the increasingly important role of parliamentary diplomacy in complementing state-to-state relations. As Acting President of the Cameroon–Egypt–Madagascar–Libya Joint Parliamentary Friendship Group, Hon. Lambe reiterated the determination of Cameroon’s legislature to foster closer dialogue between lawmakers, promote legislative exchanges and encourage the sharing of best parliamentary practices in support of sustainable development and regional stability.

Beyond diplomatic symbolism, Cameroon and Egypt have cultivated a multifaceted partnership anchored on decades of cordial relations. The two nations cooperate closely within the African Union, the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and other multilateral platforms, where they frequently advocate common African positions on peace, security, economic integration and continental development.

Bilateral cooperation has also expanded across strategic sectors including higher education, professional training, health, agriculture, defence, infrastructure, trade and investment. Egyptian institutions have consistently offered scholarships and technical training opportunities to Cameroonian students and professionals, while both countries continue to explore new avenues of collaboration in industrial development, energy, digital transformation and food security.

At the parliamentary level, the Cameroon–Egypt Joint Parliamentary Friendship Group has become an important instrument for strengthening legislative cooperation, encouraging reciprocal visits, promoting dialogue between parliamentary committees and consolidating people-to-people relations. Such exchanges contribute significantly to deepening mutual understanding and reinforcing democratic governance through the sharing of legislative experiences.

The National Day celebration equally provided an opportunity for high-level interactions between Cameroonian parliamentarians and members of the Egyptian diplomatic mission, reaffirming the shared resolve of both countries to further consolidate their strategic partnership in an evolving African and global landscape.

Hon. Adamu Edward Lambe’s representation of the Right Honourable Speaker Théodore Datouo at the celebration once again reflects the National Assembly’s growing engagement in parliamentary diplomacy and its commitment to supporting the foreign policy objectives of the Republic of Cameroon through sustained dialogue, cooperation and friendship with sister African nations.

As Cameroon and Egypt continue to deepen their bilateral relations, parliamentary diplomacy remains an essential pillar in building stronger institutional partnerships, promoting South-South cooperation and advancing the shared aspirations of both peoples for peace, prosperity and sustainable development.
