The Prime Minister and Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, on Tuesday, March 3th, 2026, officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) Classroom at Lycée Général Leclerc in Yaoundé, marking a decisive step in Cameroon’s digital transformation of its education sector.

The groundbreaking project was realized under the visionary leadership of the Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga, whose unwavering commitment to innovation continues to reshape the landscape of secondary education in the country. The AI Classroom is designed to integrate advanced digital tools, interactive smart boards, and artificial intelligence-driven learning systems into everyday teaching and learning.

The initiative was co-funded by Promethean and the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, highlighting the strength of public-private and international partnerships in advancing Cameroon’s educational modernization agenda. The collaboration ensures not only cutting-edge equipment but also sustained technical support and teacher capacity-building.

In a strong gesture of transparency and institutional accountability, Professor Nalova Lyonga invited the Committee on Education, Professional Training and Youth of the National Assembly of Cameroon to be part of the historic ceremony. The committee was represented by Hon. Njume Peter Ambang, Hon. Evina Bernadette Evambe, and Hon. Manju Nestus, reflecting parliamentary oversight and endorsement of the reform-driven initiative.

In his address, Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute underscored the strategic importance of artificial intelligence in preparing Cameroon’s youth for the demands of a rapidly evolving global economy. He emphasized that integrating AI into secondary education is a forward-looking investment in human capital, innovation, and national competitiveness.

Education stakeholders present at the ceremony described the AI Classroom as transformative, noting that early exposure to artificial intelligence will enhance students’ critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The facility is expected to serve as a catalyst for broader digital integration across the national education system.

Professor Nalova Lyonga’s steadfastness toward innovation was widely praised during the event.

Her reform-oriented leadership continues to prioritize quality, relevance, and technological advancement, ensuring that Cameroonian learners are not left behind in the global digital revolution.

Beyond Lycée Général Leclerc, the AI Classroom is projected to serve as a pilot model for replication in other secondary schools nationwide.

With bold leadership, strategic partnerships, and parliamentary collaboration, Cameroon is steadily positioning its education sector at the forefront of technological progress in Africa.
